ISBIO CARD
A More Environmentally-Friendly Range !
As early as 2010, ISRA launched its ISBIO range: cards made from paper specifically developed to replace PVC without compromising on quality and durability. The ISBIO range also includes cards made from recycled PVC (RPVC). Furthermore, we are working on solutions that allow for up to 100% recycling of ISBIO cards.
Raw materials are central to the discussion on better environmental practices, and as early as the 2000s, ISRA began exploring ways to replace PVC with paper while maintaining the strength and durability of its products.
In 2010, ISRA launched the first ISBIO range, which features PEFC-certified paper with qualities comparable to PVC. Developed in collaboration with French paper manufacturers, ISBIO has evolved to better adapt to manufacturing processes and to incorporate electronic components.
In its continuous improvement process, ISRA has consistently enhanced the paper’s qualities to offer it for all types of applications, including those requiring strength and durability (e.g., ID cards).
The acquisition of the Alphajet digital printing station also provided an opportunity to adapt paper processing methods to deliver increasingly high-quality and personalised products.
Whether using PVC or paper, ISRA’s goal is to ensure that their production has the least possible impact on the environment. This involves choosing the right material, optimising production to reduce waste, and seeking recycling solutions to offer to our clients.
Among these solutions is RPVC, which is made from recycled materials and can thus be included in the ISBIO range.
The recycling industry is advancing rapidly and now allows for the separation of the components of a smart card. Therefore, an ISBIO card is potentially recyclable up to 100%.
For card recycling to be economically viable, collection systems and material recovery methods need to be established.
The question is whether this can be integrated into an existing recycling system or if a new one needs to be created. This is the focus of the studies ISRA is conducting with its partners to integrate a recycling solution into its offerings.
